Hi all,

my great grandfather was in the 7th Btn. Loyal North Lancashire Reg. on the Somme and died there on 1st July 1916. I know it was in the 19th (Western) Division which was held in reserve for the battle. However, I cant find much out about where this battalion was in the battle of the Somme and where he might have died. Any information about this battalion would be nice!

thanks for any help

Rich

They were holding the Tara-Usna Line from 8am and ,at 3pm, moved to the old British line in preparation for an attack on Ovillers from the NW to take place at 5pm. This attack was cancelled at 4.45pm and the Bn moved to reserve trenches until dawn of the 2nd July. There were about 25 casualties on 1st July.
