alan jones Posted 8 December , 2005 Share Posted 8 December , 2005 Hello , My grandfather enlisted Nov. 1914 and gave his occupation as horse-trainer. I would have thought cavalry straightaway. He was put in RGA Siege Battey as gunner. Would he have gone through a gunnery course or is it possible that a gunner could go through the entire war without loading or firing a gun? I know each man has a part to play but would like to think he was working with guns. Would welcome your opinions, Regards, Alan
joseph Posted 8 December , 2005 Share Posted 8 December , 2005 Alan, In November 1914, the RGA did not have many trained horses they normally hired them when they did excersises, I would think your grandfather would be an asset to any unit especially if he trained Clydsdales and Shires. Do you know what battery he was put in? Hope it helps regards Charles
