Hi John

I have e-mailed you the war diary for the 2nd Battalion for the period covering your request. It has an appendix detailing the action in which your man was killed.

Coincidentally my Grandfather was involved in that action.

Sorry, but I do not have the diaries for the 1st Battalion.

Kind regards

John

Hi John

I have scanned the information for your second man from the Coldstream Guards History, and have e-mailed it to you.

Additionally, Lt R.C.G.Leveson-Gower joined the Coldstream Guards from the Royal Sussex Regiment 1st October 1916 and Captain (Temp) W.G.G.Leveson-Gower joined from Inns of Court OTC

Kind regards

John

Coldstreamer,

Could I be rude and ask you for a copy of the 1st bn war diary too please? We are researching two coldstreamers from our memorial and would appreciate any help. Pte/Gdsm Henry Greenacre 15008 KIA 27th March 1916 and Pte/Gdsm Charles Weddup 10405 KIA 17th October 1915. Where can we get copies of their service records? Many thanks.

I hope you don't mind me jumping in on this one

Do you have any info on:

Captain Geoffrey Hubert Smith MC 1st Coldstrems

I know about his death from wounds in German hands, but have not been able to find much out about his award of the MC.

Thanks

Dave / Ian.

Apologies for butting in:

London Gazette 2-12-1918 (Published 29-11-1918, Issue 31043)

Lt. Geoffrey Hubert Smith, C. Gds., Spec. Res., attd. 1st Bn.

For conspicuous gallantry and fine leadership in an attack through an impenetrable fog. On reaching the objective his company commander was killed. He at once took charge and reorganised the company, which

at the time was being heavily bombarded. Later, he captured the final objective, and although his right flank was in the air, he so disposed his command as to give very good security.

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...&selHonourType=

Looks like the citation was just before they started adding dates but the "impenetrable fog" must be a clue.... along with the death of his company commander.

Complete guestimate here - July 1918 ?

Steve.
