Guest Vanessa Skirrow Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 I'm new to this forum today. My brother and I are researching the 2/5th West Yorks Reg. We are searching the Gazette for mention of the Croix de Guerre that was awarded to Lt Arthur Wilfred Lucius Smith, MC, for action July 1918 at Mont de Bligny. He was awarded the medal in conjuction with the 8th West Yorks, we think he might have been attached to them at the time. Smith is not any easy name!! If any one has any idea when the Croix de Guerre was Gazetted for the 8th WYR could you please reply. Thanks Vanessa Canada

Stebie9173 Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 Apologies if I'm covering stuff that Chris has sent. There is this entry in the London Gazette that link him to the 8th fairly early in the war: 8th Battalion (Leeds Rifles), The Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment). The undermentioned to be Second Lieutenants. Dated 14th September, 1914: — Arthur Wilfrid Lucius Smith (late Second Lieutenant, Marlborough, College Contingent, Junior Division, Officers Training Corps). http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...&selHonourType= Steve. Guest Vanessa Skirrow Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 Thanks Steve, That's my man! I knew about that info from other sources but hadn't actually been able to find it in the Gazette either. I'm still trying to find the article about the Croix de Guerre.
