andy1400 Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 I have ccome accross a Pte Leonard Whitney G/151903 53rd Bn Royal Fusiliers in my research. He died on 11/04/1919. Now from what I can see the 53rd Bn was disbanded in 1918 and also he is buried in England. Can anyone help with info regarding his death, maybe from SDGW and also confirm my info about the 53rd Bn? Any help gratefully received. Andy
Sue Light Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 (edited) Andy The GRO index shows that he died in Ripon [aged 18] and is also buried in Ripon. I can't see a medal index card, and in view of his age perhaps he was training in Ripon and never went overseas. Maybe he died of 'natural' causes at Ripon Military Hospital - his death certificate will confirm the details of his death - the index ref. is: June quarter 1919 Ripon 9a 77 Sue Edited 3 December , 2005 by SueL
Terry_Reeves Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 Andy From James's British Regiments 1914-18: 53rd (Young Soldier) Battalion. On 27.10.17 the 104the Toung Soldoiers Bn of the Training Reserve (Formerly 28th Roysl Fusliers) at Catterick became the 53rd Bn and went to 2nd Reserve Brigade at Cannock Chase. Oct 1918 to Clipstone. There is no mention of disbandment in 1918 nor does he appear in SDGW. Terry Reeves
