eve Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 Hi Just come across this article which was in the Scotsman newspaper in October 1914 - could not find any trace on CWGC site. Does anyone know anything about this man? FATALLY WOUNDED WHILE RESCUING COMRADE News reached Swansea yesterday from'a chaplain attached to the British Expeditionary Force announcing the death of Private Albert Evans, South Wales Borderers, who was fatally bayonetted in the back -while carrying a wounded comrade to safety. His friend whom he was rescuing was brought into hospital at the same time, and is, according to the same letter, progressing fairly well. The chaplain adds, "All the boys at the hospital were much moved by the story of Evans heroism." Deceased was nineteen years of age. He was a prominent local footballer at Swansea. Hambo Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 Evelyn I checked SDGW and there are amzingly only 4 Evans in the South Wales Borderers killed from 4.8.14 to 31.10.14 none of whom are Albert. There is Francis Evans from Swansea who died of wounds on the 22nd of September but no middle initial, in fact looking again he was the only one killed before the 1st of October so he may be a possibility? eve Posted 3 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 3 December , 2005 Hi Hambo Have to agree that Francis Evans is the only one that fits the bill. Thanks for that Evelyn
