smiths565 Posted 2 December , 2005 Share Posted 2 December , 2005 Whilst researching the fate of Arthur Steel, I noticed that all the men buried in Railway Cutting Cemetery, Courcelles-le-Comte, Pas de Calais, France from the Northumberland Fusiliers, 1st Bn. died on the same day, 23rd August 1918. Can anybody tell me what action/incident occured on this day? Thanks in advance Robert.
kidd1986 Posted 2 December , 2005 Share Posted 2 December , 2005 The village of Courcelles-le-Comte was taken on the 21st august 1918 by the 3rd Division, 1st Northumberland Fusiliers were part of this division. The battle of Albert (2nd battles of the somme) ended on the 23rd august 1918 , 3rd division were involved, so it may have something to do with this battle. You probaly already know this so im probaly not much help. If you want to know in detail the actions of the 1st NF for this day try getting hold of their war diary for this time. Good luck in your research. Ben
