tamos123 Posted 2 December , 2005 Share Posted 2 December , 2005 Hi All For some reason my version of SDGW refuses to allow me to search for this data format Does anyone have any info on the above many thanks T
Roxy Posted 2 December , 2005 Share Posted 2 December , 2005 I think that's probably because SDGW only lists other ranks. Officers Died in the Great War is another publication. I have a hard copy and will troll through it (nothing much on TV!) and let you know, although if it is on CD, some other helpful soul may get you the information rather quicker than I could. Stand by. Roxy
Andrew Hesketh Posted 2 December , 2005 Share Posted 2 December , 2005 My CD comes up with a figure of 195, of whom 188 are recorded as 'Killed in Action', for 1st July 1916. However ODGW does not allow a search by theatre let alone battle, so some will possibly be casualties from elsewhere.
tamos123 Posted 2 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 2 December , 2005 Yes sorry meant ODGW...and of course yes you are correct its not split by theatre. I wonder why my copy refuses to compute? Thats a pretty good indicator many thanks T
John_Hartley Posted 2 December , 2005 Share Posted 2 December , 2005 If you need it to be accurate, then I suspect Forum member, Promenade, may have the answer. Or you may have to wait for his book. John
Terry Denham Posted 2 December , 2005 Share Posted 2 December , 2005 CWGC lists 197 army captains who died on 01.07.16. All but four of them are buried or commemorated on the Somme.
