Remembered Today:

Another little quiz

The names given to most Western front, indeed wartime, cemeteries have reasonably obvious connotations. We all know how cemeteries such as Devonshire, Gordons and Seaforth got their names but now and again a name appears that may not be quite so obvious. Earlier this year I came across "Motor Car Corner" cemetery. I won't say where it is; that might give the game away, but would anyone care to come up with a reason as to how it got that name? I assure you it is extremely logical. I would ask our pals resident in France and Belgium to refrain from entering unless they are truly guessing of course. No offence intended but you have the advantage of being able to go along and have a look for yourself.

Anyone got any other favourite "odd" names?

Motor Car Corner Cemetery is about 4km from Ploegsteert.

It got it's name from the fact that this was as close to the front that Army vehicals were permitted.
