Paul,

353rd(Siege)Bty,R.G.A. were formed at Weymouth on the 6th Jnauary 1917 and were disbanded in 1919.

On the 23rd September 1917 435th(Siege)Bty,R.G.A. was broken up and it's personnel split between 179th(Siege)Bty,R.G.A and 353rd(Siege)Bty,R.G.A.

By November 1918 353rd(Siege)Bty,R.G.A. were serving as Army Troops with 36th(Australian)(Mixed)Brigade, Second Army. The Brigade consisted of the following units;-

140th(Heavy)Bty,R.G.A. - 6x 60pounder guns.

151st(Heavy)Bty,R.G.A. - 6x 60pounder guns.

155th(Siege)Bty,R.G.A. - 6x 6inch Howitzers.

353rd(Siege)Bty,R.G.A. - 6x 6inch Howitzers.

1st Australian(Siege)Bty - 6x 8inch Howitzers.

2nd Australian(Siege)Bty - 6x 9.2inch Howitzers.

As for it's operations on active service I'm afraid I know very little, but some Forum members are well clued up and will probably fill in the details for you.

Graham.

Paul

The National Archive - Kew holds a War Diary for the above under the following ref:

WO 95/318 353 Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery 1917 June - 1918 Jan.
