Guest spook Posted 30 November , 2005 Share Posted 30 November , 2005 Hi Thought I'd share this with you all - I'm researching my family tree and this is a page from my Grandfather's Army Prayer book which is now held at The Royal Engineers Museum. I've searched the medal roll index and can't find him unfortunately. He survived the war but I don't know how long he served for. His details were: Thomas Kirk Naylor Bn 31/03/01 Castleford Sapper Thomas Naylor 1857944 58th Porton Coy R.E. Porton Nr Salisbury Wiltshire Is it possible that he never actually saw active service? Terry_Reeves Posted 30 November , 2005 Share Posted 30 November , 2005 Matt He probably didn't given his date of birth. The number you give is a post war one. If you didn't already know, he was serving at the Porton Experimental Establishment which was formed in 1916 for chemical warfare. ian turner Posted 30 November , 2005 Share Posted 30 November , 2005 Matt, It is entirely possible, especially looking at his age, that he did not see active/overseas service and thus did not qualify for the usual campaign medals. I am not a numbers expert, but I wonder if his number is a later series, post war? Ian
