[hope you don't mind Jim] MOORHOUSE, Edith Ann Born: in 1886 at Undera, Vic (reg. 19498, Kyabram) Daughter of Frederick MOORHOUSE & Deborah McCLEARY. Frederick, a farmer, was born c1844 in Yorkshire, England. He married Deborah in 1879 in Victoria, Aust. She died at Kyabram in 1891, age 38, he died the following year 26/5/1892, at Kyabram, age 48 – a resident of Undera at the time. So, at the age of 6, Edith was left an orphan, along with her 4 siblings: Mathew Henry b.1880 Wyuna Jane Elizabeth b.1882 Wyuna Mary Helen b.1884 Wyuna Sarah Louisa b. 1889 Kyabram [note: Undera & Wyuna are smaller towns outside Kyabram] Religion: Methodist Edith trained as a nurse at the Mooroopna General Hospital for 3 years, and was still a resident of Mooroopna when she enlisted as a Staff Nurse in the AANS in 1915. She sailed with the 2nd Australian General Hospital, Special Reinforcements on 21/8/15 on board the A55 HMAT ‘Kyarra’. At Alexandria she was on duty at the Ras-el-Tin Convalescent Depot from 21/10/15 – 18/11/15. On the 9/2/16 she sailed from Suez on the hospital ship ‘Nestor’, carrying out nursing duties as it returned invalids to Australia. She then re-sailed with the 14th Aust. Gen. Hosp. 19/8/16 on the A63 HMAT ‘Karoola’, which disembarked at Suez 20/9/16. On the 16/1/17 she sailed for England, and on to France on the 8/2/17, where she was posted to the 14th Stationary Hosp. 26/9/17 saw her transferred to the 2nd Aust Gen Hosp. Two lots of leave in England were granted in 1918: 21/1 – 4/2 & 14/9 – 29/9. She was then posted to the 1st Aus Cas Clear Station for duty, and promoted to Sister on the 1/10/18. On the 13/11/18 she was transferred to the 39th Stat. Hosp – this time as a patient, suffering from Influenza & Pneumonia. Edith died here on the 24/11/18 of Pneumonia, at the age of 32. She was buried at the Lille Southern Cemetery, France on the 26/11/18. Her next of kin was noted as her Uncle Henry MOORHOUSE of 61 Manningtree Rd, Hawthorn. He died 10/4/1920.
