HERITAGE PLUS Posted 16 August , 2003 Share Posted 16 August , 2003 The SS WAVELET was a 2,992 tonne British iron ore carrier wrecked 27/8/1916 on an isolated reef on the edge of the main shipping channel outside Kristiansund when on passage from Narvik to the Tees. The wreck is well broken up, but the 3 cylinder engine lying on its side, 2 boilers, and various winches are left.
Terry_Reeves Posted 16 August , 2003 Share Posted 16 August , 2003 Just add to Heritage's post: Built by W Gray & Co for Christian Salvenson in 1905. Wrecked near Bjugna Rock, Norway. Terry Reeves
Bob Coulson Posted 17 August , 2003 Author Share Posted 17 August , 2003 Thanks for the info gents. My man is listed as dying Feb 13th 1915 and I assumed he was lost with the ship but obviously not. Will have to dig a little deeper. Bob.
Terry Denham Posted 17 August , 2003 Share Posted 17 August , 2003 Bob SS Wavelet was mined 13.02.15 11 miles N.E. by N. from North Goodwin. 12 fatalities. Ship beached & repaired. Your man must have been one of the 12.
