andalucia Posted 17 November , 2005 Share Posted 17 November , 2005 As i have had a great response to my other advert i thought i would try my Great Grandfather John Hogan. John Hogan 112913, was a gunner with the 299th Siege Battery of the Royal Garrison Artillery. He died on 24th June 1917. and is buried at Ferme-Olivier Cemetery. Hoping to find where he would have been and where he saw action. also as he was a gunner does anyone know what his job was? Many thanks. Tony. essdee Posted 17 November , 2005 Share Posted 17 November , 2005 Allocation of Batteries attached, also Kew hold a War Diary for 299 SB and as you can see, it only covers June/July 17 which is rather convenient. WO 95/397 299 Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery 1917 June - July Stuart
essdee Posted 17 November , 2005 Share Posted 17 November , 2005 Tony 299 joined the 85th HAG 22 June 17, two days prior to his death. A diary for this Hag covering June is also held at Kew:- WO 95/479 85 Brigade Royal Garrison Artillery 1917 Apr. - 1919 Feb. You should get a reasonable picture of events from both of these diaries. Stuart Ps.... don't forget to look at the appendix if there is one.

KONDOA Posted 7 December , 2005 Share Posted 7 December , 2005 Hi Tony, Click this link: 299 th Siege Battery Then having decided that its for you - Go to- SHOP ONLINE at the top of the page and select ORDER COPIES OF DOCUMENTS. Follow the set up instructions to open an account. ie email and postal address and then you can order by CC. Make a note of the document Ref number beforehand and you will also need a plastic card of some description. Roop

KONDOA Posted 7 December , 2005 Share Posted 7 December , 2005 Tony, Dont worry, the first request is for quotation only and costs £10. You do not have to order all of it , only the months you need or dates etc which you specify in the box on the order form. They will then email you with the final cost which you can agree to or lose your 10 quid. Normally it is much cheaper than going personally depending where you live.
