A quote that made me smile

A quote that made me smile:

On the subject of Flight Cmdr. Field Kindley (USA):

“It’s really a toss-up whether he eventually destroyed more Allied or German planes....after he wrecked his fifth aircraft, one of his comrades pointed out that he had already accumulated enough ‘kills’ to qualify as a German fighter ace.”

:D

Marco

As I was doing a gliding course, and Old Hand used to say the following to cheer up raw learners like me after a weak landing while on instruction:

"If, after a landing you can get up and go have a cup of cofee, that was a fine landing... If the plane can get used again... that was one H**L of a landing!"

Another "German Ace" of this ilk was Wing Commander Ira Jones, of the RAF. In his book "Tiger Squadron", he mentions that he crashed 29 aircraft. Not bad, being both a German and a UK Ace! Doc

IIRC (rare event!) when Billy Bishop published his autobiography post-WW2 in which he admitted to an awful lot of landing accidents & the like, a German ace's association heard of this and offered him membership! I believe he accepted!

Confirmation or otherwise would be appreciated.
