Here are a couple leads to consider:

*Canadian Great War Project

This site is intended to be used to research Canadians who participated in the Great War 1914-1919. The content is primarily database driven to facilitate searches for information. The site is, and will continue to be, a work in progress, and is becoming a collaborative effort among those interested in researching Canada and the Great War. The site is also developing a database of recommended books and websites. The site is hosted by Marc Leroux.

Try this URL address which will take you to the J.W. Bells

Also, you should be able to purchase the 66th Battalion Nominal Roll from this little company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I have no connection with this company.

I suspect the James Bell you want is 101472 Bell, James, whose attestation papers are here .

It would seem he was farming near Spirit River (Alberta) when he signed up late in 1915. He would have arrived in England in May, 1916, so he did not have much time to transfer to the 49th Battalion in France before being killed in July.
