I wonder if anyone can help?I have a BWM to;

Airman 2nd class,Stanley James George Hodge

49795,5th Squadron., RFC.

Died 14/5/1917 buried Duisans British Cemetary.(CWGC)

As he is not an officer I can find very little info on him and how he died ,Also there is very little information on his squadron. I would be most grateful if anyone can enlighten me.

Thanks

Stanley James George Hodge died of wounds.

Age 23. Native of Cricklewood.

(from Airmen Died)

5 Sqn were based at Savy airfield at this time and were flying BE2's.

There is no record of any losses by 5 Sqn on this day in 'Sky Their Battlefield' so unlikely to be a casualty in air warfare.

Hope this helps

Regards

John

Thanks for information it adds a bit more insight to this recipient.

I notice He died of wounds and the area that he is buried in was used as casualty clearing stations from 1917 onwards.I wonder if he was wounded at an earlier time and then sucumed to them at a later date.

I will keep researching.Thanks again

Regards

Did the RFC have observers or Signallers in or near the front lines for recon purposes. If so is it possible that he died of wounds due to ground action?

Hi

Yes this is one of the avenues I will have to research,But I suppose the possibilities as to the cause of his death are endless.Hopefully something will turn up.

Cheers
