Jim Strawbridge Posted 10 November , 2005 Share Posted 10 November , 2005 Daughter of Mrs. Matha Duke of 10, Bramhill Rd., Southsea, Hants (the name Martha seems more likely but the spelling was taken from Charlotte’s attestation papers). CWGC has the address as 10 Bramble Road. She joined up on the 17th January 1918 and was based as a cook at HMS Victory. She worked at the Lion Hotel, Portsmouth (presumably commandeered for war accommodation) from the 2nd July 1918. Her entry is in the quarterly Deaths register is Portsmouth 2B 594. CWGC shows as Charlotte Sophia Duke whilst the attestation papers show as Charlotte Sophie Duke. She died aged 23. She is commemorated on panel 5 of the Guildhall Square cenotaph, Portsmouth City Centre and on panel 1, York Minster.
