uncle bill Posted 12 August , 2003 Share Posted 12 August , 2003 A french boot sale turned up the following medals. BWM, Victory medal and French red cross medal. All are named to a British nurse. I know nothing about medals and wondered if all nurses received these decorations. Thanks in advance for any info.
HERITAGE PLUS Posted 12 August , 2003 Share Posted 12 August , 2003 Bill Medal Eligability: BWM All those who served on the staff of military hospitals and all members of recognised organisations, for example the British Red Cross and the Order of St John, who actually tended the sick and wounded. VM The medal was awarded to all those who had served in the armed forces, as well as to civilians contracted to the armed services, and to those who served in military hospitals on the various battlefronts during wartime. Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 12 August , 2003 Share Posted 12 August , 2003 What you have here is an interesting set of medals which can command a higher price than those issued to the likes of the PBI. Depending on condition and ribbons etc what you have is £75 - £85 worth for a non casualty. Nice one! Ian
uncle bill Posted 12 August , 2003 Author Share Posted 12 August , 2003 thank you Ian. They were in a chocolate box at a local boot sale. Being far from where the action happened ( Limoges ) people tend to overlook Great War militaria. I'd like them to go to a good home so if anyone's interested....
