Guest hal90000 Posted 7 November , 2005 Share Posted 7 November , 2005 I am trying to find out where the 1st Bn. of the South Wales Borderers were positioned on the 9/10th November 1917. My GT.GT. Grandfather Pte. William Henry Hodges (10857) was KIA on 10th Nov. He is listed at Tyne Cot but, like so many others, was never found. Any help would be appreciated. Guest hal90000 Posted 7 November , 2005 Share Posted 7 November , 2005 John, Many thanks for your info. (it will enable me to concentrate on a specific area). Do you know how I can obtain the pages you have suggested? Are they held at Brecon, PRO or elsewhere? Regards, Alan
jhill Posted 8 November , 2005 Share Posted 8 November , 2005 You might want to have a look at the War Diary of the 8th Canadian Battalion which you can find here . The 1st SWB was on the left of the 8th Cdn Bn, and the 8th Bn's narrative of operations gives some details of the SWB's going on. For example, some of the SWB lost direction and slipped too far right. The attached message map is attached to the diary of the 2nd Cdn Infantry Brigade. The SWB was just to the left of the *th Bn. There are also snippets of barrage maps and whatnot.
Guest hal90000 Posted 8 November , 2005 Share Posted 8 November , 2005 James, Many thanks for your help. This is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. I have also tracked down the regimental pages John was referring to. Best regards, Alan.
