welshdoc Posted 4 November , 2005 Share Posted 4 November , 2005 Now I think I understand what a VAD was and what was a red cross nurse etc. But why would someone be "Red Cross & st Johns of Jerusalem"? was it simply the latter was in both organisations or was it training or what? Terry_Reeves Posted 4 November , 2005 Share Posted 4 November , 2005 Gareth They were separate organisations, but joined together in WW1 to form the Joint War Committee of the the British Red Cross and Order of St John. As well as the nursing aspect , they also raised money to provide fully equipped ambulances, ambulance trains , and motor launches for use in Mesopotamia, amongst other things.
