steve140968 Posted 4 November , 2005 Share Posted 4 November , 2005 Can anyone please help me with info regarding Pte Thomas Shurey of the Royal Berkshire regiment . His MIC download shows his numbers as being 5734 & 497975 . There is no theatre of war entered and he was entitled to the victory medal and British war medal . ANY additional info would be greatly appreciated . Regards , Steve .
Stebie9173 Posted 4 November , 2005 Share Posted 4 November , 2005 497975 is an awfully strange number for the Berkshires. If you type "Berkshire" and "497???" into the MICs search you get 21 men with Berkshire numbers of which 90% of them later had London Regiment numbers. I think he may have been in the Berkshires and then transferred to the London Regiment. The other possibilities are Labour Corps or RE. If it is the London Regiment that number was allocated on 1-3-1917 to the 13th London battalion. There is then the 1/13th (France) and the 2/13th (France-Salonika-Egypt-Palestine) to choose from. steve140968 Posted 4 November , 2005 Author Share Posted 4 November , 2005 Thanks Steve . I'm looking at a copy of the MIC now and it says R.Berks.R - Pte - 5734 , but underneath the number is 497975 on the next line down , but no corps entered . So you are probably correct about the transfer , but they have not entered the new regiment . Regards , Steve .
