He apparently had been captain on the Amra, a small Pacific freighter, then joined the Royal Navy and became captain of the Elax, which served as oiler to the NZ Expeditionary Force to Samoa. The Elax was later sunk in the Mediterranean "ELAX, oiler, lost 1916, October 10, Mediterranean" Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
