Remembered Today:

12th Lancers

Can anyone tell me where the 12th Lancers were in the late 1870's and early 1880's? The reason I am asking is because a man I am researching, namely Henry E Clayton (Really Henry Every-Clayton of Carr Hall Nelson) appears in the 1871 census as a soldier at Aldershot, but he is absent from the 1881 census, reappearing again in the 1891 census as a Railway Police Constable at Birkdale.

They served during the Indian Mutiny and returned there in 1887. In 1881 they were in Bagalore and in 1887 they were back in England, being stationed in Colchester.
