aconnolly Posted 30 October , 2005 Share Posted 30 October , 2005 Thought I'd mark the 90th anniversary of my Grandad "signing up". He came from rural Queensland, served in France, was gassed in the German advance of March 1918, but lived well into his 80s. Here is just a small part of the wonderful details available on-line from the Australian War Memorial website. Remembered forever Andrew
frev Posted 1 November , 2005 Share Posted 1 November , 2005 Hi Andrew Glad to see your Grandad was one of those that made it home - as was mine. It's possible, that like my g/d, yours spent the rest of his life taking a 'foul smelling' black liquid medication (my dad's description) - to counter the effects of the gas. The things they went through! May we never forget! Cheers, Frev
aconnolly Posted 1 November , 2005 Author Share Posted 1 November , 2005 Thanks Frev I'm glad yours made it home too. G'Dad did swallow some odd stuff, but I think he called it Scotch... Andrew
