Two Men - One Memorial

Time to place another one of my Memorial books here available for look ups.

Published by Oxford University Press in 1919.

E.H.L. Southwell (13th Btn) and M.G. White(1st Btn) were two young schoolmasters at Shrewsbury. They were both commissioned into the Rifle Brigade and both killed on The Somme in 1916.

A moving memoir, based on their correspondence, was edited by a Shrewsbury colleague.

Malcolm White.

The two of them came together as masters to Shrewsbury in 1910, they left together in 1915, and they were both killed in the battle of the Somme. For those that knew them both it is impossible to consider them apart, the memory of them is single. To their contemporaries they were known as "The Men."

Thread being closed down for look ups dueto recent events on the forum and the inability of people to show respect to fellow forum members
