Petroc Posted 23 October , 2005 Share Posted 23 October , 2005 Not of major consequence, but something occurred to me earlier that begs an answer from someone more knowledgable; it is well-known that conscription under the terms of the various Military Service Acts was never extended to Ireland, but what was the position of English, Welsh and Scottish civilians permanently resident in Ireland. Were they subject to compulsory call-up like their counterparts on the mainland, or were they exempted due to their residency?
gporta Posted 23 October , 2005 Share Posted 23 October , 2005 I don't know if it may be helpful: I know of some cases of men for Irish stock, though not born in Ireland, who were called up after conscription... Not enough, though, to reach any decisive conclussions (and they were English because of their birthplace, anyway). Gloria
