stiletto_33853 Posted 18 October , 2005 Share Posted 18 October , 2005 Trying to tie up a few loose ends on some of my locals again and was wondering if anyone had some more information on this gentleman . 2nd son of Mr & Mrs J.G. Williamson. He joined the Artist Rifles in September 1916 when barely 18, and later transferred to the R.F.C. He died of wounds received in Aerial combat on 1/1/18 and was buried in Mendinghem Military Cemetery, Proven, Belgium. Can anyone tell me anything on how he received his wounds. Many thanks Andy
Dolphin Posted 18 October , 2005 Share Posted 18 October , 2005 Andy 2Lt G D Williamson was flying as the observer in RE 8 A3424 (I don't know the name of his pilot) on an artillery observation mission when he was fatally wounded on 1 January 1918. It's likely that he was struck by ground fire. I hope that this helps Gareth
