Swally Posted 13 October , 2005 Share Posted 13 October , 2005 Hi Guys, see if you can answer this little poser. My Granda served with the Royal Horse Artillery from roughly 1902 - 1907 and originated from Aberdeen. I believe that the R.H.A. is an English unit, was there recruiting offices in Aberdeenshire around this time or did he run away from home and join up elsewhere? I know that he served during WW1 and was part of the B.E.F. would he have rejoined his original unit (RHA) or would he have joined a unit nearer to him as he now stayed in Bo'ness near Edinburgh ? I believe for him to have gone to war as part of the B.E.F. he must have been on some sort of reserve list after leaving the army. His name was Robert Allan born 1885 in Aberdeen to Robert and Elspeth Allan. He survived the war even though he had been mustard gassed and had been hit by shrapnel Any help that you can give on this subject is appreciated.
