Hello I am new to this forum but I am local to Hythe & Folkestone in Kent & I can assure you the East & West Sandling camps were both just to the north of Sandling railway station as indicated on the map I have included. The camps were both proper wooden buildings & not tents.I hope this helps. Also I might add that the camps were located in this particular area because of the proximity to Folkestone Harbour Station.. Other nearby camps were at Westenhanger Kent & Otterpool Camp Sellindge Kent.

Michael and Paula Dugdale of Saltwood, Kent had a site that might be of interest to those researching C.E.F. soldiers who served in the Folkestone/Sandling area. One of the articles they have written pertains to the practice trenches on Tolsford Hill. The rest of the site covers subjects in the area such a war grave, war memorial, the camps of Sandling, etc.

This link is to a PDF that covers his work on Tolsford Hill. It will open directly to a PDF file: http://media.wix.com/ugd/2da59e_95690b9ca9de4418bbfd85f969ad6a3b.pdf
