Remembered Today:

No.9, Field Ambulance

I have been researching Temp/Captain Charles Francis Drew M.B. I have found that he entered France June 1915 (per MIC) and relinquished his commission due to illness Jan 1918 (per L.G.) He was awarded the Military Cross in the New Years Celebration? 1919. In the gazette it listed him as attached to No. 9 Field Ambulance. According to Long,Long Road No.9 FA was attatched to the Guards Division in Aug 1915. My questions are: 1.Would he have been in the same unit the whole time he was in France? 2.Is there a way to trace No.9 FA to a smaller unit within the Division?

Interesting sidenote, according to the description of a Field Ambulance (in Long,Long Road) it was stated that "the officers and men did not carry weapons or ammunition." What has started me on this research is that I have C.F.Drew's (RAMC) sidearm.

Thanks for any light that can be shed for me on this subject.
