My great grandfather supposedly died in the war, but he is very difficult to track down.

Thomas Edward Jones was born in Dawley, Shropshire in 1863. Though he lived in the Cannock, Staffordshire in the early 1900's.

My grandad who passed away many years ago, he never really spoke about him according to my Dad and Uncle. But my Uncle said that he died in the war.

I've tried the usual websites to see if i can track him down but as you can imagine how may Thomas Jones's exist.

I was wondering if there are any other avenues or if someone had an index they could search.

Thanks

Lee

Lee

Soldiers Died lists two Thomas Jones', born Dawley:-

Gnr TJ, 259012, enlisted Ironbridge, KIA 1/9/18

and the better bet:-

Pte TJ, 18th Lancs Fusilers, 15995, Enlisted Stoke on Trent , lived Hanley, KIA 22/10/17

Hi Lee

I can rule out the Shropshire Regiment, there is only one Thomas Edward Jones killed/Died with them but he was from Oswestry, plus there are no Thomas Jones from Dawley or Cannock.

Hi Lee,

There is a Pte Thomas Jones 15995 18th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers KIA 22-10-17 Remembered on Tyne Cot Memorial.

He is listed in Soldiers Died as being born in Dawley, Enlisting in Stoke on Trent and being resident in Hanley, Staffs.

I don't know if that is of any help, but it may be a start !!

Cheers

Tim.
