I've seen one every now and then dotted about in diaries, but have mainly seen end of month totals entered in a war diary. eg: 26 OR KIA, 3 MIA, 100 WIA Should I be revisiting my gt grandfather's unit diary to search for such a list (I probably will now I've thought of it) - but how far up were such lists most often kept - Brigade level, Battalion level etc? with thanks doogal
Paul Johnson Posted 4 October , 2005 Author Share Posted 4 October , 2005 Doogal, You are quite right when you say that these lists are infrequent. They are very random and do not often have so much detail. This is a list compiled at Brigade level and I have found that the Artillery diaries often contain greater detail than Infantry ones, for a very good reason. Artillery units were relatively static and some distance behind the front lines, therefore, keeping more detailed records was a little easier. It's always worth scanning through any diary you may look at to seek out such lists. As I find them I will publish them as they appear to be of immense use & interest to other Pals.
