Annie.

Aaaarggh! The "DSO" post is not actually his DSO but the reason for his MID. However, I would think that the DSO was probably for the same action, or service including the action.

Not having seen an MID citation before threw me a bit! That and the Fort Itala mention.

Sorry,

Steve.

One DSO announcement:

LG 31-10-1902.

The Prince of Wales's Volunteers (South- Lancashire Regiment).

To be a Companion of, the Distinguished Service Order.

Lieutenant Robert Cecil Trousdale.

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...&selHonourType=

Trousdale came out as "rrousdale" on the search. No wonder it was hiding well...

Citation still hiding. If there is one...

Steve.

Hi Steve!

Maybe there isn't one - I have Ich Dien and it just says under DSO's

Major R C Trousdale DSO (where it's supposed to have date of London Gazette ) it says Bar and then DSO awarded in SA War R of Officers PW Vols

Everybody else has a date!!

but he is also listed under Military Cross!

Major R C Trousdale DSO 1/1/1919 P of W Vols R of officers (DSO in 1902)

Does that help??

The "Bar" bit is the 2nd award date 1-1-1919 (as in DSO and Bar). The date is the New Year's Honours. Since he'd been a Staff Officer and not in the field for most of the War he would have got that for doing his job well rather than any act of gallantry.

R of officers will be Reserve of Officers.

P of W Vols is obviously Prince of Wales Volunteers.

It looks like he got the DSO twice (1902, possibly for gallantry, and 1919 as a service award), but not the MC.

I've searched for about 10 of the other DSOs mentioned on the same page and can't find a citation for any of them. It looks like neither DSO has a direct citation. I would still favour his MID action as at least part of the reason for his DSO award.

Hi Steve!

How weird !! That he got the DSO twice .... I haven't got his medal card yet - I should huh? wonder what that would say? like I said the MC was in the "Ich Dien" - so I thought that was a given!!

Well thanks so much for all your looking! I appreciate it!

Annie

What am I talking about! One of the postings I made was for his MC. Gazette of 1-1-1919. Ignore what I said. It looks like it was an MC and not a bar to his DSO. I shouldn't really post these things in my breaks at work. You end up posting things without checking them!

The Bar comment on his entry in Ich Dien is intriguing but there doesn't seem to be a reference to it elsewhere. I just jumped to conclusions. Bad habit.

Apologies for the confusion,

Steve.

I'm the only one that's allowed "DUH" moments .....!

Plus I'm watching a program of the WW1 - in colour! so I'm a little distracted too!
