Remembered Today:

221 Squadron War Diary

I posted an enquiry earlier for FL LT R G Spence RNAS/RAF who was awarded the DFC in the LG Jan 1 1919.

He is one of a few who did not get his citation published and we are non the wiser as to what he did to get this award. He flew DH 9's and was heavily involved in bombing Constantinople and the Bulgars and was shot down on a small Greek Island which he managed to get back to base from. I havn't a clue where this was and was wondering if the Squadron Diary is in circulation or was it burnt in the blitz or thrown over the side at Taranto on the squadrons way home.

Can any one help.

Cheers,

Rob

Thanks Chris,

I have his statement of Navy Officer Service and it has him posted in July 1918 to 62 & 63 Wings RAF Stavros Greece and from 16/07/19 no further RAF records held, I am sure he didn't go to Russia as he would have mentioned it, as it was we got numerous asides to seeing the Golden Dome of Constantinople from 500 ft.

Thanks,

Rob
