A friend of mine has come across an old photograph showing a wooden cross bearing the following details;

KYLE W Pte 24328

3/RI Scots Fus

26.10.16

The photograph also shows a marker bearing the number 633 (possible grave row marker?) The picture clearly shows dozens of similar wooden crosses with 'row' markers.

Will attempt to post the piccy (I only have a photocopy image)

Anyone able to help with where the grave would be?

What action was he killed at?

Any other info would be good. B)

Edit: Sorry tried to photograph the photocopied picture.....Nothing but glare

Malcolm,

Cheers for that. B)

My mate tried to look up an MIC at the National archieve and also found a Kyle with a different service number to that in my original post. I have looked at the photo again and the numebr inscribed on the cross is 24328.

Could they have 'cocked this up'?

Malcolm,

Good point. Never gave that a thought mate

I think my mate came up with the same service number as your look up.

He has e-mailed some relatives to get more info re place of birth etc.

Edit: Just read your edited first post.....Brilliant thats him then.

Any clue as to the action he was struck down in?

SDGW states that your man Died which would confirm Malcom's statement that he died from disease. Other info, he enlisted - Ayr.

Regards Doug.

Evening Malcolm and Doug B)

Thanks for those replies.

I get your drift there Doug if he had died in battle it would no doubt state KIA.

We were talking about this today at work....What a shock for a young bloke in some small town/village in Ayrshire to finish up in Greece in 1916. :o

How his poor parents must have felt with him dying so far away and not being able to visit his grave......tragic indeed.
