Remembered Today:

Harry Smith

Probably a long shot but I'm researching Airman 2nd Class Henry (Harry) Smith who is buried in the local churchyard. He is marked on CWGC as died so I would guess he died in the UK of natural causes or perhaps an accident. Would anyone know what he died of?

Does someone know what his rank denotes? What did an Airman 2nd Class do?

He came from Ontario so although his name is on our memorial I suspect his only connection with the village is the fact that he's buried there.

AMII Henry Smith (25602) of the RFC Recruits Depot, a native of Brants, Ontario, died on 6 June 1916, and is buried in Limpsfield, Surrey. He was 34 at the time of his death.

Airmen Died doesn't indicate the reason for the death, so it was probably a natural cause.

An Air Mechanic Class II was more or less the RFC equivalent of a Private in other parts of the Army.

Regards

Gareth
