Remembered Today:

Who signed the OR's pay book?

I have my grandfather's paybook, and have found the officer who signed it between getting to France and getting killed (the officer). Does anyone know whether an officer would sign for his company (which would identify the company my grandfather was in), or whether one officer would have looked after the whole battalion?

Thanks

Andrea

The usual British Army practice was to pay the men by companies and so it is feasible to establish the company your grandfather was in through the paying officer who would have been one of the platoon commanders.
