Nathan Greenfield Posted 26 September , 2005 Share Posted 26 September , 2005 On the German map of 2nd Ypres that shows where the various units began and ended their assaults, one unit is denoted by the code R.E. 4 Does anyone know what it stands for? Cheers, Nathan
Malte Znaniecki Posted 26 September , 2005 Share Posted 26 September , 2005 Hi Nathan, RE 4 means "Reserve-Ersatz-Regiment No 4" (infantry). The german 2nd Reserve-Ersatz-Brigade was an "independent" unit which consisted of R.E.3 and R.E.4. On 22nd April 1915 the 2nd R.E.Br. was under command of german 51st Reserve-Division which belonged to the XXVI. Reserve Army Corps.
