Howitzer or Siege Battery

Searching through the war diaries WO references at the NA I found a few references to 14 Howitzer Battery RGA.

Would this be the same as the 14th Siege Battery RGA as I have never heard of Howitzer Batteries before?

I know the 14th SB had 4 x 6" howitzers, could I be right or just barking up the wrong tree?

That depends on who made the notation and whether they had any idea what they were doing. The indicies for the war diaries at the NA have some awful mistakes in them. In the index for RGA Siege Batteries, HAGs are continually referred to as "Horse Artillery Groups" when they should be "Heavy Artillery Groups". It is quite possible that "Howitzer Battery, RGA" might well be a mistake and that they really meant "Heavy Battery, RGA." Dick Flory
