Remembered Today:

House in Abele area

This is a little obscure, I admit, but here goes.

My memory tells me that as you drive along the road from Steenvoorde towards Poperinge, somewhere in the area of Callecanes or Abele there is a house on the right hand side with a date showing in the brickwork of its end gable.

I always think "that was here when they were...how many blokes saw that?" whenever I go past it.

I'm trying to remember exactly where it is and what date it is. Any thoughts? Other than "you poor chap, you'll have to go back and take another look"?

There is one that springs to mind - a single farmhouse on the right of the road ( as you drive from Abele to Pops) just before the hopfields beyond Abele Aerodrome cemetery (or roundabouts that area anyway). It has the date built in white brick, but I seem to recall the date being "1926".

I presume that this isn't the one you mean?

Dave.

I think I know the one you mean, Chris. In a couple of weeks I'll be driving from Hazebrouck to Ypres and I'll try to remember to look for the house if no-one else has managed to answer your question.

Tom
