Remembered Today:

German Cemetery at Menin

Hello

I'm off to Ypres next week and hope to visit the German cemetery at Menin.

Has anyone else visited who could give me directions? Obviously I know we have to go down the Menin Road and through Gheluveld but I have no idea how to find it once I get to Menin.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

It's the cemetery numbered "6" on this map.

here're the details...

(It's well signposted, so you shouldn't really have any problem)

Dave

Thanks - that's brilliant.

From the map it seems straightforward.

Thanks again

It is a convention that German war cemeteries are signposted from the centre of the locality after which they are named, so that is the place to look if you are seeking one. It is possible to enter a village or town from the 'wrong' direction, so look hard in the centre in case you are seeing the reverse of an arrow. Thereafter all junctions are marked.

Thanks Jack - I'll bear that in mind.

It could explain why wehad such trouble finding Langemarck on our first visit a few years back!

Hello,

The best thing to do is take the N8 road from Menen to Kortrijk over Wevelgem (do not take the motorway!). On this road, a few hundred meters before a church with a green roof (copper) on the border between Menen and Wevelgem, you have to turn left (it's not a big road, it's in a residential area and there is a signpost there but you have to look out for it). Then you have to follow that small road (which is turning a few times) until you reach railway crossing. It's just a bit further on your left hand side.
