armourersergeant Posted 19 September , 2005 Share Posted 19 September , 2005 I have some copies of documents from II corps War Diary from 1914. Ranging from the normal War diary type sheets to specialist documetns on Lessons learnt and one file on Oct 1914 attack at Neuve Chappelle. This is not complete for 1914 but more sparodic. Willing to do look ups regards Arm
DaveBrigg Posted 19 September , 2005 Share Posted 19 September , 2005 I'd be very interested in references to 2nd KOYLI, especially leading up to 18th October 1914 when private Harold Oglesby was killed. Many thanks Dave
armourersergeant Posted 19 September , 2005 Author Share Posted 19 September , 2005 Dave, I will have a look but I fear you will be lucky if I have any references to battalions, its more from a brigade/division basis. But I will look at what i have , if anything around those dates and get back to you soonish. regards Arm
armourersergeant Posted 20 September , 2005 Author Share Posted 20 September , 2005 Whilst I was wrong in regard to battalions not being mentioned I can find no reference to KOYLI in the records that I have, or it's mother formation around the days you mention. sorry regards Arm
LtColSki USMC0302 Posted 20 September , 2005 Share Posted 20 September , 2005 Arm, Would truly appreciate a look-up on a Captain (later Major) Frederick G.G. Bailey, RFA. I have a cryptic reference on his MIC, which indicates he was assigned as an ADC to the GOC 3rd Division (the actual reference being "Staff book, pg 57). Based on what I know about him, it appears the he may have briefly been ADC to Maj General Hamilton or his successor sometime between August and November 1914. Thanks. Regards, ~Dan
armourersergeant Posted 20 September , 2005 Author Share Posted 20 September , 2005 I will have a look when I get a chance, but I think most Major Generals had two ADC's I am aware that Hamilton had Billy Congreve as one and another at the time of his death was Captain Thorpe. I think Wilkinson replaced him after Hamilton was killed for a while before he was sent home and then replaced by Haldane I think. As I say I will Have a look and get back. regards Arm
LtColSki USMC0302 Posted 21 September , 2005 Share Posted 21 September , 2005 Thanks Arm. As you have noticed, I have another thread regarding Bailey http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...=ST&f=1&t=34002 As you can see, the MIC notation seems to indicate that he was somebody's ADC. I only wish there was a date attached to those "routine orders." Anyway, appreciate any light you can shed on this. Thanks. ~Dan P.S. I'll now confine my Bailey posts to the above linked thread so as not to clutter your II Corps thread.
