noe Posted 29 July , 2003 Share Posted 29 July , 2003 I recently bought a smle mkIII*. Ive been checking out what some of the stamps mean. I have a distintive DP stamped atop the chamber. After a little research, i discovered it could me 'Drill Purpose' and therefore has an unsafe barrel. Does any know if this true, and that if my gun was use as training purposes as some point juring its life ? Also how would the barrel become unsafe ? Many Thanks Mark
Staffsyeoman Posted 29 July , 2003 Share Posted 29 July , 2003 It is indeed 'Drill Purpose' and could simply be (I will happily demur to those with more Armourer's experience) that its rifling is so worn as to render it of no further value as a field weapon, but useful as a (non-firing, or deactivated) training aid.
