6th Shropshires Posted 15 September , 2005 Share Posted 15 September , 2005 Hi Nick Have not got full details of Division but the 16th Brigade were in billets between Doullens and Amiens until 6th Sept. 1916 it then moved forward to Bray-sur-Somme area. The Division took part in battle of Flers-Courcelette on the 15th Sept, their objective was Morval but the Quadrilateral held them up, this postion was took on the 18th. nicburch Posted 15 September , 2005 Author Share Posted 15 September , 2005 Annette, Thanks for your info. I am trying to find the location of the W6 heavy mortar battery attached to the divisional artillery. As well as 16th Brigade i believe the 18th and 71st were in that area around that time. Is it difficult to match a mortar battery to a paticular brigade? were they moved to where they were needed? Nick
6th Shropshires Posted 15 September , 2005 Share Posted 15 September , 2005 Hi Nick Yes the 18th and 71st Brigades were in the area at the time. you may already know this - W6 heavy mortar battery was formed on 20th July 1916 and stayed with the Division until 6/3/18 when it became V heavy mortar battery of VI Corps.
