Soren Posted 15 September , 2005 Author Share Posted 15 September , 2005 Yeah it does look like a rip-off, but it's hard to not think of his image when drawing them, perhaps the best painting of WW1, I was lucky enough to see his sketches for it, now they were FABULOUS! I know it was not a walk in the park, but I would really have loved to have been there.....
jdajd Posted 15 September , 2005 Share Posted 15 September , 2005 Theres no such thing as a rip off in art. In art its inspiration. What moves me most about both yours and Sargents is the second blinded man in yours (I am not sure what number he is in Sargent's). The way his leg is raised truly gives the sense that these men cannot see. They do not know where to put their feet down so every step has to be a tentative one. Once again good job. Adrian Roberts Posted 15 September , 2005 Share Posted 15 September , 2005 I remember seeing Sargent's painting at an IWM exhibition a long time ago. Was blinding from gas usually permanent, or was there a chance of recovery? Adrian
CROONAERT Posted 15 September , 2005 Share Posted 15 September , 2005 Was blinding from gas usually permanent, or was there a chance of recovery? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In the majority of cases it was temporary (but painfull!) Dave.
