harlor Posted 13 September , 2005 Share Posted 13 September , 2005 Hi All, My Great Uncle served in the Sherwood Foresters and was KIA in 1917, I am led to believe that he was a professional soldier and had joined before the war and had actually served in Bombay in India before going to France with the BEF. His Regimental Number was 11480. Is it possible to tell what year he joined by his number. Any help much appreciated.

Desmond7 Posted 13 September , 2005 Share Posted 13 September , 2005 11 at start of number .. does that designate the 11th (Service) Btn. therefore he would be a Kitchener Volunteer? 1914/early 1915 period?
Andrew Hesketh Posted 13 September , 2005 Share Posted 13 September , 2005 Des - I wish it was that simple. From my research the only thing to be reasonably certain of is that the number was not a Forester territorial. Harlor - would this be a Sergeant E(dward?) Else we are discussing?
