French propaganda?

I read the diary of a german soldier that my library had. by Feldwebel C

published in New York Alfred A. Knopf 1919.

I have a hard time believing this is genuine. Supposedly written in French for the French.. payot et Cie 1918

Any one has come across this book?

I've run across an American edition of this book. While I didn't do a full investigation, I found that the unit locations and other similar details were accurate. However, it is possible that these were taken from the German 'Grey Book', which was a very detailed propaganda piece dealing with atrocities committed by Belgian franc tireurs against German soldiers.
