9th Battalion Essex Regt

Can anyone help me with the above. I have him as died aged 37 on 3rd July 1916. Son of Samuel Henry and Rachel Alston of Hutton Essex, and husband of Florence Alston of 36 Myrtle Road, Warley Essex

Obviously you might have the SDGW database, but here is some extra info if you haven't.

He was killed in action and is listed as having been born in Chelmsford, lived in Brentwood and enlisted at Warley.

He probably died after the 12th Division attacked Ovillers on the 2nd July 1916.

Hi Steve & Patrick,

Let's stick to July 3rd, as that is when the attack on Ovillers was launched by the 12th Division, or at least its participating Brigades. The 9th Essex Bn. was part of the 35th Brigade as far as I can determine.....
