Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 25 July , 2003 Share Posted 25 July , 2003 One for Ivor! What was the function of this Company in 1918? Thanks, Ian
Ivor Lee Posted 26 July , 2003 Share Posted 26 July , 2003 Ian 87 Company was a general labour company generally working just behind the front line. They were often used building defences as well as at forward ammo dumps and railheads. March 1918 they are reported to be working within 800 yards of the enemy and that is before the German offensive! In September 1918 they were transferred to "RAF support" - building airfields? Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 26 July , 2003 Share Posted 26 July , 2003 Ivor, In September 1918 87 Coy became 87 Labour Company Independent Air Force. Movements of troops are mentioned in the Daily Routine Orders of 8 Bde IAF under Air 1 at the PRO. This places them close to the American Sector.
